Buġibba sits on Malta's northern coast, where local fishermen still work from the small harbor while tourists swim at the Blue Flag beach nearby. Walk along the 3.5-kilometer waterfront promenade to watch boats heading to Comino's Blue Lagoon, stop at the Malta National Aquarium to see Mediterranean marine life, or join locals for evening drinks at one of the many pubs around the main square.

Getting Around Buġibba

You can walk anywhere in Buġibba within 15 minutes from the main square, making it an easy town to explore. The promenade stretches along the entire coastline, linking Buġibba to Qawra and St. Paul's Bay. From the central bus terminus, you can reach Valletta in 45 minutes and the airport in about an hour, with regular connections to other parts of Malta throughout the day.

Swimming and Beach Areas

The artificial Perched Beach has earned Blue Flag certification for its water quality and safety standards. Metal ladders along the rocky shore give you access to clear Mediterranean waters. During summer, both locals and visitors swim here. You'll find changing facilities and rental spots for sun loungers and umbrellas at the beach area.

Exploring the Waterfront

Walk the 3.5-kilometer promenade from the Salina salt pans to the fishing harbor of St. Paul's Bay. Stop at cafes for coffee, grab an ice cream, or look out toward St. Paul's Islands. In the evenings, the main square comes alive as restaurants and bars set up their outdoor tables.

Day Trips and Activities

The Malta National Aquarium houses Mediterranean marine life in its large tanks at the edge of town. Take boat trips from the harbor to the Blue Lagoon on Comino or to Gozo island. In summer, children can splash at the Buġibba Water Park, while the Oracle Casino opens daily year-round.

Historical Sites

A Neolithic temple from the Tarxien phase lies within a hotel complex in central Buġibba, dating back to the 4th millennium BC. Along the coastline, look for the foundations and defensive ditch of Buġibba Battery, built in 1715 by the Knights of St. John to protect the coast.

Practical Information

The main supermarket, Welbee's, is located on the Qawra side of town. Take bus route X3 to reach the airport, or routes 31, 45, and 48 to get to Valletta. Many businesses close during winter months. The main tourist season runs from June to September, when all restaurants, shops, and entertainment venues operate.
