Słubice, a town of 16,705 residents in western Poland, sits along the Oder River directly across from Frankfurt (Oder), Germany. You can walk or cycle across the connecting bridge between both cities. In Słubice, you'll find the world's first Wikipedia monument, restaurants serving schab tradycyjny słubicki (a pork loin smoked with beech wood), and the Hanseatic City Festival that brings 100,000 people to the border region each July.

Cross-Border Bridge

The Frankfurt (Oder) - Słubice Bridge spans the Oder River, connecting the two cities. Many people cross daily for work, shopping, or leisure. From the bridge, you can see both city skylines and watch boats navigate the river.

Local Food Scene

Schab tradycyjny słubicki, a pork loin smoked with beech wood for 12 hours, has become a Christmas table staple in the region. Try this local dish at Restauracja Polska Tradycja or Restauracja Kresowa, where cooks prepare it alongside other Polish dishes like żurek and pierogi.

Academic and Cultural Life

The Collegium Polonicum, an extension of the Viadrina European University, runs joint German-Polish degree programs. Near the university stands the Wikipedia monument from 2014 - a bronze and stone sculpture depicting four people lifting a Wikipedia puzzle globe, honoring Wikipedia editors worldwide.

Economic Activity

Companies in the Kostrzyn-Słubice Special Economic Zone employ over 1,000 people. The town's marketplace, with 300 stalls, ranks among the largest in the German-Polish border region. Many German and Polish shoppers come here for clothes, food, and household items. The town has 45 logistics and forwarding companies operating in the area.

Recreation Areas

At the OSiR Stadium complex, you can play on the 9-hole "Dębowa Polana" golf course or skate at the indoor ice rink. The surrounding park has 200-year-old oak trees and 3 kilometers of paths for walking and cycling. The Oder riverbank connects to a 220-kilometer cycling route network spanning both Poland and Germany.

Annual Events

During the three-day Hanseatic City Festival in July, both sides of the border come alive with 50 music performances, 100 food stalls selling Polish and German specialties, and cultural exhibitions. The festival spans both cities, with events happening simultaneously in Słubice and Frankfurt (Oder).
