Singapore is a pretty special place. There are the clear roots from the Southeast Asian region where it is located, there is a heavy Chinese influence, and then there is the Western influence. Mixed together in small city-state which is one of the wealthiest nations on earth.
Nowadays it is a major business hub in Asia with both lots of startups and regional headquarters for international companies. I have traveled here several times for work, and as a tourist.
I love the variety of food, and have had great meals in Chinatown, Little India and lots of other places in town. I also appreciate the interesting architecture in different styles. My favorite building is the art deco high-rise Parkview Square, which feels like something out of Gotham City in Tim Burton's Batman movies.
I very much dislike the shopping mall culture here where you can probably spend days just walking between malls. But then again, I don't like shopping. Also be prepared, this place is shockingly expensive for Southeast Asia!
Singapore is easily combined with other destinations in Southeast Asia, as it is a major travel hub. So take the chance to see Singapore if you are changing flights here.
