İskenderun is a sleepy port town in southern Turkey that’s popular with Turkish holidaymakers. It’s not the prettiest place in the world, but it does have a certain charm, and the locals are friendly and welcoming. The town is centred around a large harbour, and there’s a good mix of old and new here. You can wander the narrow streets of the atmospheric old town, with its Ottoman-era houses and mosques, or head to the modern part of town for a taste of Turkish life. There are plenty of restaurants and cafes here, as well as a few beaches for when you need to cool down. İskenderun may not be the most exciting place in the world, but it’s a great place to relax and take it easy.
