Kemer, a seaside resort on Turkey's Mediterranean coast, lies 43 km west of Antalya. In this town, you can walk on pebble beaches, explore ancient Greco-Roman cities, and hike through pine-covered mountains. You might find yourself swimming in the warm Mediterranean waters, trekking through Göynük Canyon, or marveling at the eternal flames of Chimaera.

Beaches and Coastal Areas

Kemer's 4.2 km coastline has various beaches, from sandy stretches to pebbly coves. At Moonlight Bay Beach Park, next to Kemer Marina, you'll find a mix of fine sand and pebbles. The beach has bars, cafes, changing rooms, and sun beds. For a less developed setting, visit Cirali Beach near the Olympos ruins. This long beach of mixed sand and pebbles has clear waters and serves as a nesting area for sea turtles.

Natural Areas and Activities

The Taurus Mountains rise behind Kemer, providing many hiking trails. In Göynük Canyon, you can go canyoning between tall cliffs or hike along clear streams. For a view from above, ride the Tahtali Aerial Cableway to the top of Tahtalı Mountain. During the 10-minute journey, you'll see the Mediterranean, Olympos National Park, and snow-capped peaks.

Ancient Sites

Several ancient cities surround Kemer. Phaselis, between the Bey Mountains and Olympos National Park, contains the remains of a Lycian port city. You can see its well-preserved aqueduct and imagine the trade in rose wood oils, perfumes, and timber that once happened here. Near Cirali Beach, you can explore the ruins of Olympos, another ancient city.

Shopping and Markets

Kemer's compact center makes it easy to visit its shops and boutiques. For local products, go to the Monday market next to the Viking Hotel. Here, you'll find fresh produce, spices, and local sweets. The Tuesday market near the Marina sells clothing and accessories, from t-shirts to shoes.

Evening Entertainment

As night falls, Kemer offers various entertainment options. You can have a drink at a beachside bar, listen to live music at one of the town's venues, or dance at Club 29, Antalya's largest outdoor disco. You might also enjoy an evening walk along the harbor to watch the sunset over the Mediterranean.

Transportation

Kemer's bus terminal connects to many cities across Turkey. Within the town, you can walk to most places, shops, and restaurants. Taxis and dolmuş (shared minibuses) can take you on longer trips or to nearby beaches and ruins.

Weather and When to Visit

Kemer has hot, dry summers and mild, rainy winters. Summer temperatures often go above 40°C (104°F). Spring (April to May) and autumn (September to October) have more comfortable weather for walking and sightseeing. During these months, you can enjoy outdoor activities without the intense summer heat.
