Anderlecht is one of the 19 municipalities located in the Brussels-Capital Region of Belgium. The municipality comprises the historic core of Anderlecht, as well as the former municipalities of Sint-Jans-Molenbeek, Sint-Gillis-Waas, and Sint-Pieters-Leeuw. On January 1, 2006, Anderlecht had a total population of 96,738. The total area is 17.62 km² which gives a population density of 5,500 inhabitants per km².
