Located in the southwestern part of Czechia, CHKO Šumava is a protected landscape area known for its extensive forests, peat bogs, and glacial lakes. This village is also the gateway to many trails and outdoor activities.

Nature and Wildlife

The Boubín Forest is one of the oldest primeval forests in Central Europe. A walk through this forest reveals ancient trees, some over 400 years old. The park’s various peat bogs, like Chalupská slať, offer unique flora and fauna. Birdwatchers will enjoy the abundance of woodpeckers and owls. Lynx, an elusive predator, also inhabits these woods, though sightings are rare.

Activities

Hiking and cycling are popular activities with numerous marked trails such as the Modrava – Tříjezerní slať route. In winter, cross-country skiing becomes a common way to explore the landscape. Canoeing is possible on parts of the Vltava River, offering a different perspective of the park. For a challenging hike, try the Poledník Lookout Tower, which provides sweeping views from its summit.
