Latina is a city located in the Lazio region of central Italy, the sixth largest municipality in the country by population. It is the capital of the province of Latina. The municipality, formed on 8 April 2014, by the merger of the municipalities of Latina, Priverno, Cori, and Sezze, has a population of about 213,000.
Latina is located on the Tyrrhenian Sea, about south of Rome. The city is the center of a conurbation which includes all the towns in the province, and is part of the region of Lazio. The original village of Latina, founded in 1807 by the Napoleonic government, was built on the nearby marshy land around the palace of the Counts of San Donato. In 1846 it became the capital of the newly created province of Latina.
The city has a rich historical heritage, dating back to the Roman period, and is home to
