Santu Giuanni Suergiu/San Giovanni Suergiu

This small town in the Barbagia region of Sardinia is a must for anyone interested in the ancient and spiritual side of Italy. The origins of Santu Giuanni Suergiu are a mystery, but the town is thought to date back to the Nuragic period. It is home to some of the most important religious sites on the island, including the Sanctuary of Nostra Signora di Bonaria and the Chapel of St. John the Baptist. The town is also home to the festival of Santu Giuanni, which takes place every year on the second weekend of August.
