San Vincenzo stretches along Tuscany's Etruscan Coast, with a medieval watchtower overlooking its fishing port. You can swim at the Blue Flag beaches, walk through pine forests in the Rimigliano Natural Reserve, or watch fishing boats unload their catch at the harbor. The town's waterfront restaurants serve fresh seafood caught by local fishermen, while inland paths lead through Mediterranean scrubland where red squirrels and foxes roam.

Swimming and Sunbathing

The beaches of San Vincenzo stretch for ten kilometers along the coast, with both supervised and wild sections to choose from. Most beaches have fine golden sand and gradually sloping seafloors, making them safe for children. The water quality has earned Blue Flag certification every year since 2006. You'll find beach clubs with umbrellas and loungers in the town center, while the more remote sections near Rimigliano Natural Reserve remain undeveloped.

Exploring Rimigliano Natural Reserve

The 120-hectare reserve runs parallel to the coast, creating a green buffer between the beach and inland areas. Walking trails wind through pine forests and past sand dunes covered in juniper and myrtle bushes. Red squirrels, foxes, and birds like green woodpeckers and jays live throughout the reserve. The paths are well-marked and suitable for both walking and cycling.

Water Activities

You can learn sailing at the school in San Vincenzo's harbor or rent equipment for independent trips. Local diving centers run trips to nearby reefs and the waters around Elba island. During summer months, beach clubs along the main beach rent stand-up paddleboards, kayaks, and windsurfing equipment.

Local Food Scene

Local fishing boats supply San Vincenzo's restaurants with daily catches. Many menus include cacciucco (fish stew), spaghetti alle vongole (clams), and fritto misto (mixed fried seafood). The town sits on the Costa degli Etruschi wine route, and restaurants serve wines from nearby Bolgheri vineyards.

Getting There and Around

The nearest airport is Pisa International, about 90 kilometers north. Regular trains connect San Vincenzo to Pisa (1 hour) and Florence (2 hours). The compact town center is walkable, while bikes make a good option for exploring the coastline and nature reserve. Ferries to Elba Island depart from nearby Piombino port.

Day Trips

The Etruscan archaeological site of Populonia lies 15 kilometers south, with ruins and a museum. The medieval hill towns of Suvereto and Campiglia Marittima sit within 20 kilometers inland. Elba Island, visible from the beach, makes a good day trip with ferries departing from Piombino, 20 minutes away by train.
