A calm coastal town near Malmö with a 500-meter wooden pier stretching into the Öresund strait. Popular summer swimming spot among local residents.
Bjärred, a coastal town in southern Sweden's Skåne County, sits along the Öresund strait. What began as a 19th-century seaside resort has evolved into a suburban community of 9,500 residents. Visitors come to swim at the 524-meter-long wooden pier, walk along the dramatic coastal cliffs at Littorinavallen, and watch local athletes compete at the tennis club that trained Swedish champions Caroline Magnusson and Henrik Sundström.
Swimming at Långa Bryggan
The 524-meter-long Långa bryggan jetty leads to an open-air swimming facility in the Öresund strait. The swimming baths, opened in 2004, include separate swimming zones for children and adults, plus a restaurant at the pier's end. From June through August, swimmers jump from designated platforms while sunbathers relax on the wooden deck. The beach near the jetty slopes gently into the water, making it safe for children. Find changing rooms and showers at the jetty's entrance.
Exploring Littorinavallen Nature Reserve
Littorinavallen nature reserve stretches along north Bjärred's coastline, where coastal cliffs rise 10-15 meters above the beach. Walking trails follow the cliff edge, revealing views across the Öresund strait to Denmark. This geological formation emerged during the last ice age when the Littorina Sea covered the area. Take the connecting paths down to Löddesnäs beach for swimming or sunbathing. Stop at information boards along the trails to learn about local plants and the area's ice age origins.
Local Sports Scene
At HK Ankaret handball club, youth teams train and compete year-round. Watch matches at the main indoor arena or join practice sessions (contact the club office to arrange). The Lomma-Bjärreds Tennis Klubb runs six indoor courts and four outdoor courts. Book a court through the club's website or watch local tournaments, typically held on weekends from April through September.
