Coburg

Coburg is a sleepy town in Bavaria, southern Germany, that’s home to around 40,000 people. It’s best known as the birthplace of the Saxe-Coburg and Gotha dynasty, which ruled the United Kingdom as the House of Windsor until the death of Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother in 2002. The town has a long and illustrious history, and its well-preserved medieval centre is a joy to explore. Highlights include the imposing Schloss Ehrenburg palace and the Gothic St. Moriz church. There are also a few lovely parks and a couple of decent restaurants. Coburg is well off the beaten track, and that’s part of its appeal. If you’re looking for a quiet place to relax and soak up some history, Coburg is hard to beat.
