Szombathely

Szombathely is a city in western Hungary, near the Austrian border. The city is the oldest in Hungary, having been founded by the Celts in the late 4th century BC. The Romans conquered the city in the 2nd century AD and renamed it Savaria. The city played an important role in the development of Hungarian culture and history. The city's main sights include the ruins of the Roman city, the Episcopal palace, the Protestant cathedral, and the Baroque palace. Szombathely is also home to the country's only synagogue dating from the Ottoman period.
