Sumbawa is one of the Lesser Sunda Islands, and is located in the eastern part of Indonesia. It is flanked by Lombok to the west and Flores to the east. The island is surrounded by coral reefs and has a number of beautiful white-sand beaches. The island is also home to Mount Tambora, an active volcano that erupted in 1815, the largest eruption in recorded history. The eruption killed an estimated 92,000 people and created a tsunami that reached as far as Java. The island is also home to a number of traditional villages, including the Bajawa village, which is home to the Bajawa people, a tribe of animists who still practice traditional customs.
