Wałbrzych

Wałbrzych is a city in southwestern Poland, in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship. It is the administrative seat of Wałbrzych County, and of the smaller City of Wałbrzych. Wałbrzych is located about 60 km southwest of the provincial capital Wrocław, and about 10 km east of the border with the Czech Republic.

The city, which has a population of about 120,000, is situated in the historic region of Lower Silesia, on the western slopes of the Karkonosze mountains. Wałbrzych is an important railway junction, with direct connections to Wrocław, Jelenia Góra, Legnica, and Dresden in Germany.

The city has a number of tourist attractions, including the Wałbrzych Mountains, the Książ Castle, and the Świdnica Salt Mine.
