Zabrze

Zabrze is a small city in southern Poland, located on the Silesian Lowlands. It’s known for its coal mining history – the first coal mine in the area was opened here in the 14th century – and for its association with the Solidarity movement, which began in Zabrze in the 1970s. These days, Zabrze is a quiet city with a population of around 150,000. It’s a great place to visit if you want to see a traditional Polish city that’s off the beaten track. The city centre is compact and easy to explore on foot, and there are some great places to eat and drink. Don’t miss the city’s cathedral, which is one of the largest in Poland.
