Zgierz

Zgierz is a small town in central Poland, located on the Vistula River, about 60 kilometers (37 miles) west of Warsaw. The town is best known as the birthplace of Karol Wojtyla, who was elected Pope John Paul II in 1978. The main attraction in Zgierz is the Wojtyla Museum, which is located in the house where the future pope was born in 1920. The museum is open daily from 9:00am to 5:00pm.
